Case 225
The issue considered by the Myth-busters challenge panel concerned a
notice placed in the window of a local charity shop stating that they are
unable to accept further donations due to health and safety.
The panel’s decision was that the charity shop was wrong to use
"health and safety" as the reason for their decision and they have
readily accepted that this was misleading terminology. However, the reasons for
calling a temporary halt to donations to enable them to process a large volume
of donations already received was entirely sensible. The panel was confident
from the very helpful response received from the charity concerned that any
future decisions will be better explained.
